From the Garden
🌿 Garden Enrichment
Our first month of garden classes have started strong!
Our students are showing a lot of enthusiasm for being out in the garden every week and we are finding a good daily routine of moments to be still and observe the garden life around us, work on garden tasks to maintain our space, and do projects involving things like art and cooking. Last week we used some of the apples from our school tree and a neighbor's tree to make applesauce! Students chopped apples and put together all the ingredients and we were able to enjoy a warm bowl of applesauce at the end of class, as well as share it with other staff members. We hope to incorporate more cooking together as we see how to use ingredients from our garden that provides for us so well.
Another favorite task the kids have been enjoying is harvesting the scarlet runner beans from our bean tepee and bean arch. The beans are so colorful and we will enjoy cooking them in a soup recipe soon. In the coming weeks we will also be starting a garden journal to document things we observe about our projects, make art of the garden sights that inspire us, and record information about specific plants. We are excited for the garden days to come!
